Microsoft Edge introduces a new “Video Super Resolution” feature that is set to make outdated videos look better

To improve the appearance of outdated, blurry films, Microsoft Edge is gaining a video upscaler for its Edge web browser called Video Super Resolution (VSR).

This feature will enable low-resolution videos to gain high quality, which can be achieved with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence algorithms. With the Video Upscaler AI, transformations can be made for old family videos, for example, or low-quality footage into stunning, crystal-clear videos that look like they were shot in high definition, says Microsoft, and it was further revealed that in addition to its advanced upscaling capabilities, the Video Upscaler AI also includes a range of editing tools that allow you to adjust colour balance, brightness, and contrast, as well as add filters and effects to your videos. And can allow one to crop and trim their videos to their desired length and export them in a variety of formats for easy sharing.

The advantages that high-resolution video offers cannot be overemphasized, as it is a lot clearer and contains more details on closer looks compared to low-resolution videos, which may be of extremely low quality and may also come across as unprofessional and unappealing. So you can imagine how much good this feature will do, considering old, low-quality videos will get transformed into high-resolution videos.

It is essential to know that at the moment, the Video Super Resolution (VSR) technology introduced by Microsoft is still in its testing phase, and only a certain percentage of users who are using Edge on the Canary channel of the Microsoft Insider programme have access to it.

Furthermore, users must fulfil a few conditions in order to test out the VSR. The first requirement is that the video must be 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) or lower in resolution and not be covered by digital rights management (DRM) software.
